A drinking club with running problem
If you've ever spent more than a week in Grenada, you've most likely heard of the Hash...
Grenada Hash House Harriers is the formal name of the group. A group dedicated to running / walking nearly every Saturday afternoon / evening. Often a challenging course and sometimes downright difficult. Around 5 kilometers in length. A trail for walkers. A trail for runners. Sections of the trail often hacked with a machete in the bush, parts of it following public roads or established paths. Hills are always part of the course because ... Grenada has lots of them.
A different location every week. Scouted out and mark the previous day by the Hash Master. The direction of the trail is indicted with 'hash paper' left on the ground. For added interest, the trail might split (2 paper arrows, only one correct) and the 'runner' has to decide which is the correct path... A small diversion you hope the person ahead of you discovers first and relays the correct direction...
Most runners / walkers complete the trail within an hour; muddy, sweaty, tired... maybe a few scratches. A ceremony is held for those who have 'lost their virginity' (first time hashers).
Beverages and local food is available for purchase.
Kathy participated in her first hash (virgin!) the short walking trail... still a nice sweaty challenge with a few hills to climb.
Jim chose the long walkers trail... more hills, more sweating...
Along with a nice workout, you get a small glimpse of the local area that you pass through...
