Land lubbers no more

26 May 2015
early morning

Today was our first day / night aboard.  We are now full time cruisers.  House is sold.  Possessions distributed.  Downsizing to the extreme.
After selling the house we moved to a 2 bedroom apt, 2 blocks from the boat / marina. The transition was perfect.  We sorted and stowed gear nearly evey day for a month in preparation for living aboard.

new solar panels

The solar panels are on and functioning !

We have inventoried and mapped the goods aboard and have an electronic 'treasure map' to find what's hidden for retrieval in the future.

All systems are currently working and we couldn't be happier if we'd won the lottery.  In many ways, we feel we did.  Years of planning and saving have come together to make this possible.
Tonight we sleep with the lines creaking as they pull against the gentle action of the wind and water that followed this afternoons rains.

The loose plan is a 5 year adventure traveling about as we please, staying warm and avoiding bad weather...

the saloon
We have had a busy week and weekend.  We are settling in to our new accommodations.  Mostly good. In such small quarters, it's easy for the space to get cluttered if we don't put things where they belong.  grrr.  Going to take some diligence on our part.

We are really happy with the new solar panels.  They are easily meeting our initial electrical needs even with the rain and clouds this weekend.

Saturday was a hunker down, double nap day.  The rain poured the wind howled.   Temps less than optimum for the thermally impaired half of the crew.
new storm sail... just in case
We have been trying to squeeze in visits with family and friends as time allows.  Knowing it will be a long time before seeing them again is the hardest part of this whole venture... not enough kleenexes.

Our time at the dock is steadily diminishing...

Winslow life raft ... hope we NEVER need it but ...

a good night ...
